On 30th August, United Naga Council had organized a peace rally in all the Naga Hill districts of Manipur. The event went peacefully in all the districts except in Ukhrul, where Manipur IRB’s and Commandos, deployed by the Ibobi government shot dead two civilians and injured many including women.
Here’s what happened …
People had come from all across the town and villages to take part in the peace rally organized by the UNC.
Men, Women gathered in every locality
People were to gathered at Tangkhul Naga Long Groud, however the Commandos and IRB’s stopped the people from reaching the venue. A posse of security forces at Awontang Junction was reported to have resorted to blank firing at around 1.45 p.m. and simultaneously turned sporadic towards the road leading to the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat.
Its clear that Manipur Govt doesn’t want the people of Ukhrul to have peace.
However many people break the barricade and reach the venue
As the Ukhrul Superintendent of Police passed through Wino Bazaar, his security escort personnel fired tear gas, mock bomb and gunned down two men at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground.
Which was followed by many rounds of blank fires
They started dispersing the crowd, and shooting the peaceful people who have gathered for the rally. They were shot mercilessly by the Manipur Commandos and IRB’s.
Six persons sustained bullet injuries and two were reported to be in critical condition, while another seriously injured person Ngachonmi Muinao (30), son of M. David of Somdal village was rushed to Imphal Saturday afternoon.
These are the pictures that reveals the cruelty of the Commandos towards the innocent people
Many people were injured, including women. Many persons found walking at Hamleikhong and Phungreitang areas were beaten up by IRB and police commandos, while some were dragged inside the Mini Secretariat complex and brutally assaulted and released later.
It was ‘Black Saturday’ in Ukhrul. Two civilians were shot dead and several others including a woman and security forces were injured as security forces fired upon rallyists during a rally organized by United Naga Council (UNC) in Ukhrul. The deceased have been identified as Ramkashing Vashi (26), son of V. Christopher and Mayopam Ramror (30), son of R. Hangyui, both from Teinem (Tuinem) village.
In anger the mob retaliated and burnt down two vehicles.
