Which class were you when you were 12 years old? I was probably in 7 or 8 standards running away from books and playing marbles whenever I get the opportunity to sneak out.
Well, here’s a story of a 12-yr-old kid from Manipur who is all set to become the youngest student in the state to appear in Class X board exams which is scheduled on February 2020.
Isaac Paulallungmuan Vaiphei from Kangvai village of Churachandpur currently studying in Mount Olive School has been given the approval by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BoSEM) to register his name for the exam with his actual date of birth for the upcoming exam.
According to BoSEM, a student needs to complete 15 years of age as on 1st April of the year in which a candidate intends to appear for the class 10 board exams.
This is the third efforts by Isaac’s family to approach the board for the permission. In November 2017, and 2018, the family had approached the board to allow Isaac to appear for the exam. However in both the cases were turned down citing age factor.
Apparently, this is the first time that Manipur board has given its approval to a student who is not yet 15 years of age, an opportunity to seat in the exams.
The approval was given by the Administrative board members of the Manipur Board based on a psychological test conducted on the boy. The administrative members termed it a “special case” considering the boy’s mental age and superior IQ.
Following Vaiphei’s application the commissioner of the education department ordered to conduct a Psychology test on the boy.
Accordingly, a test was conducted by department of Clinical Psychology, RIMS in Imphal. As per the results, Isaac’s mental age was 17 years 5 months and his basal age was 14 years and terminal age was 22 years.
His IQ is 141 which is of very superior intellectual and development functioning, added the result.
Upon getting the news of the approval to write for the board exam, the jubilant and confident Isaac comments that he will do his best and to make it in the top 15.
