As per the recent report by NDTV, Manipur’s Chief Minister Okram Ibobi from the Congress is among the flashiest Minister who uses a BMW X5 as his ride. BMW X5 cost close to Rs 80.00 lakhs Ex-Showroom price (Delhi).
In 2012, in a list of chief minister and their declared wealth, Ibobi was shown as amongst the poorest, with declared assets worth only Rs 6.09 lakhs. In the affidavits declaring the assets owned by the candidates and submitted along with their nomination papers, it has been shown that chief minister Okram Ibobi singh has just Rs 50,000 in hand and Rs 1,05,147 as his bank balance. Besides this, one ambassador car of 1988 model is registered in the name of chief minister. The car is said to have been purchased in 2000 at a cost of Rs. 50,000. In addition, the chief minister has 240 grams of gold whose monetary value has been put at around Rs 4 lakh.
Mr Ibobi is also termed as Mr Ten Percent for the amount of money that he takes from contracts and government projects.
“In a September 2006 confidential cable released by WikiLeaks, Henry Jardine, principal officer, US consulate general in Kolkata, underscored the corrupt state of affairs in Manipur. The US official, reporting that rampant corruption was complicating the effort to control rising violence in the state, also mentioned that chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh was known as “Mr. Ten Percent”, for the amount of money that he takes from contracts and government projects.” Wikileaks
Well all we can say is, Mr Ibobi surely is using his ‘Ten Percent’ lavishly!
